Our coco runners were recently used as an eco friendly alternative to red carpets at a huge fashion event in Vancouver, Eco Fashion Week. This was Eco Fashion Week’s third season and is one of the premier eco friendly fashion events in North America today. Our coco runners were used at four different media walls where plenty of celebrities, models, and fashion industry leaders posed on our mats for photographs.

Our coco runners are made from fibers found between the internal shell and the outer coat of the coconut, once harvested the fibers are soaked in a slow moving body of water until they puff up, making them easier to weave into mats. Coir fibers are tough and waterproof making them ideal for doormats. Most doormats today are made from coir, or synthetic coir.

Red Carpet vs Coco Carpet

Often times red carpet is made from nylon which contains toxins that can pollute the air and cannot be recycled. Last year the Environmental Protection Agency reported over four billion pounds of carpet found in the US’s solid waste stream. Runner, rugs, and mats made from coconut fibers are completely biodegradable and do not expel any toxins into the air, making them a much better choice for the environment and are quickly becoming the new must have decor item.

Spring is in full gear, the snow is melting or completely gone in most cases, people are packing away their  heavy winter gear and pulling out lighter and brighter clothing. So why not do that with your home? Here are a few ways to give your home a spring make-over.

Lighten up your home:

Exchange your throws and table cloths for softer ones in whites or pastels, or try softening up dark hardwood with a  sisal mat and get rid of heavy drapes and replace them with bamboo blinds, this pair will bring a cool beachy vibe to any room.

Make your outdoor space more liveable:

Invest in a patio set, or even just a bench you can put at your doorway or in your yard.
